As I write this, I am approaching the fifth anniversary of the
proud purchase of my first very own domain name. What an
exciting day that was, as I entered the realm of the internet
marketing arena.
Anyone who's been doing this for as long as I have knows that
many people have come and gone. As I spent time this week
working to develop my online contacts, I was struck at how many
people have come on the scene since I first published my own
website in January of 2000.
This process starting me thinking about some of my first
mentors, most of whom are still around. But as I began to
recall those who went before me, I realized that there are
others that I haven't seen or heard from in a very long time.
So I decided to do a bit of research to determine if I had
simply lost contact or if they indeed were no longer operating
their online business.
There are many people that I no longer hear about, so I'm
assuming they have moved on to other business pursuits. That
is to be expected, but there were three individuals that stood
out in my mind. Here is what I have discovered.

Darren Roberts
Of the three people I researched, this is the only one that
still seems to have their original website running - sort of.
If you click on the link you will see that it has a short and
somewhat cryptic message - "Topliving is changing .... a lot"
Darren was the publisher of a long-running newsletter called
"AAvenues to Your Success." In years past I was a faithful
subscriber, but at some point I chose not to take it any
longer. However, I continued to enjoy his articles in other
publications.
A google search didn't reveal much more. The most recent
articles I could find by Darren were dated in 2001, although
it could be that he has published more recently than that.
Monique Harris
A quick visit to the website above reveals that it obviously is
no longer owned or operated by its originator, Monique Harris.
A tremendously talented and dedicated entrepreneur, Monique
authored several outstanding information products as well as
co-authored several with other marketers. Her well-known
work, Make Your Knowledge Sell, which she wrote with Dr. Ken
Evoy, is still available through his website.
She was also one of the first people to introduce the concept
of the paid subscription for an electronic newsletter with
her "Infopreneur Informer" which she published twice a week.
As with her other information products, Monique was extremely
successful with this format.
Linda Cox J.A.M.G.
Like Monique's site, Linda's original domain seems to have been
taken over by another entity. And that's a real shame, as Linda
was one of my favorite writers. Her articles were always
amusing, with a big dose of reality about marketing online
mixed in.
As with Darren, I couldn't find any articles written more
recently than 2001. She was creative and entertaining,
something I think we could still benefit from in this often
far-too-serious field. I'm sorry that she's no longer around.
Oh, the J.A.M.G. after her name? That was Linda's own special
signature and it stands for "Just Another Marketing Guru."
Another sign of her tremendous sense of humor.

It's understandable - indeed, even to be expected - that some of
those who have gone before us have chosen to pursue other areas
of interest. It's the nature of the beast, particularly for
true entrepreneurs.
All three of these individuals were certainly that.
